Why this price, when the law caps the fee at $5?
The Government of Québec states that a Commissioner for Oaths may charge a maximum of $5 per oath, at their discretion. That amount covers the commissioner's fee for the act itself — it does not cover scheduling, secure videoconferencing infrastructure, prior review of your documents, or availability outside regular hours.
Like other private online oath-commissioning platforms, Assermentation Express charges a separate service fee for those elements. That's what explains the difference with a public commissioner (library, municipality, employer) who administers an oath for free or for a few dollars, but usually in person and within limited availability.

Pricing questions
Does the price change based on the number of documents?
No. The $29 CAD price is fixed for a session, whether you have 1, 2, or 3 documents sworn during the same meeting.
Does the commissioner keep the full amount paid?
No. The price covers both the commissioner's fee for administering the oath and the platform's service fee (scheduling, secure videoconferencing, prior document review, secure storage).
Are there fees if my document is rejected?
No. If the commissioner cannot process your document, you are fully refunded.
