Solemn Affirmation Template — Québec
A solemn affirmation carries the same legal effect as an oath, without religious reference: the declarant solemnly affirms their statements are true, rather than swearing to them. In Québec, anyone may choose a solemn affirmation instead of an oath in front of a commissioner for oaths.
This general template follows the same structure as a sworn declaration, adapted to the affirmation wording.
What is this template for?
It lets you solemnly affirm a set of facts, for people who prefer this wording to an oath with religious connotation.
When can it be used?
- Any situation where a sworn declaration would otherwise be used, if you prefer the affirmation wording
- Supporting an administrative process that requires a solemn declaration
- Completing a file when no specific official form is provided
Before using it
If the receiving organization provides its own form, that one must be used first — let the commissioner know before your session that you'd like an affirmation rather than an oath.
