Sworn self-employed declaration: when is it needed and how does it work?

With no employer or pay stub, a self-employed person often has to prove the existence and nature of their activity to a financial institution, a landlord or an immigration authority. A sworn declaration describes the activity, its clients and its income.

The declaration describes your activity; it is not a notice of assessment, a financial statement or a tax document, which the institution may also require.

In what situations is it requested?

  • a credit, loan or rental application;
  • an immigration process where you must prove your employment;
  • proof of irregular income or one-off contracts;
  • a process where you have no employer letter.

What should the declaration contain?

  • your identity and, if applicable, the name of your business;
  • the nature of your activity and since when you have carried it out;
  • your main clients or types of contracts;
  • the order of magnitude of your income, if useful;
  • a statement of truthfulness.

How does this relate to the income declaration?

The sworn income declaration focuses on the amounts earned. This one first describes the activity itself; they may be requested together.

Can it be sworn online?
