Sworn declaration for a social housing (HLM) application: how does it work?

Eligibility for low-rent or social housing (HLM) depends, among other things, on household composition and the applicant's financial situation. When the usual documents aren't enough to establish these facts, a sworn declaration may be required by the housing bureau.

Each housing bureau has its own eligibility criteria and its own forms — always check those that apply to your application.

In what situations is it requested?

  • confirming household composition (number of people, family relationships);
  • confirming the financial situation when the usual documents are insufficient;
  • the absence of adequate or current housing, depending on the program's criteria;
  • verification by the bureau when there is doubt about the information declared.

What should the declaration contain?

  • the full identity of the declarant and the household members concerned;
  • the facts supporting the eligibility claimed;
  • a statement of truthfulness.

Does it need to be sworn?

This depends on the housing bureau concerned. Always check its exact requirements before having your declaration sworn.

Can it be sworn online?

Yes, when the document and situation are eligible for remote oath commissioning, by videoconference.
